Unit Assistant
About The Position
As our Unit Assistant, you will provide essential support and comfort to patients and staff, assisting other members of the healthcare team with providing basic patient care under the direction of a Staff Nurse. Every day you will manage patient registrations and scheduling, process orders and requisitions, and meticulously track charges to maintain accurate financial records. To be successful in this role, you will exhibit a helpful, compassionate demeanor, strong attention to detail, and a proactive approach to maintaining unit efficiency and team support within a dynamic healthcare setting.
Requirements
- One (1) year Unit Assistant/Clerk or equivalent in a healthcare setting.
- Medical terminology course or equivalent knowledge.

- Previous experience assisting in direct patient care.
Responsibilities
- Manage patient registrations and scheduling.
- Process orders and requisitions.
- Meticulously track charges to maintain accurate financial records.
- Provide essential support and comfort to patients and staff.

- Maintain unit efficiency and team support.
- Competent in psychomotor skills and technical procedures.
- Proficiency in Health Information Systems, supply orders, departmental data/reports.
- Perform legible, timely, concise and accurate documentation according to policies and procedures.
- Proficient and competent with the computerized documentation system.
- Use appropriate organization, priority setting and problem solving skills.
- Communicate clearly and effectively using proper communication etiquette.
- Manage multiple phone and intercom lines.
- Use medical terminology accurately.
- Report abnormals or change in patient condition to appropriate personnel in a timely manner.
- Accountable for self-directed learning and participation in continuing education to meet own professional development.
- Apply safety precautions and principles to patient care.
- Adhere to all National Patient Safety Goals.
