About The Position

These facilities are committed to providing outstanding Subacute Rehab and Long-Term Skilled Nursing Care, offering patients the best rehab and nursing care they can obtain. The Unit Assistant is responsible for assisting with meal service, passing and collecting trays, and monitoring the day room while engaging with residents. They will also assist with activities when needed, inform the Nurse or CNA of any resident needs or changes in condition, perform resident transport, distribute meal trays, and set up meals in front of the assigned resident. Additionally, the role involves transporting residents to designated dining areas, assisting with handwashing, distributing beverages, assisting residents with meal or snack alternates, opening containers, and assisting with transport to/from programs. The Unit Assistant will also supervise residents in the patio area and monitor assigned Community Rooms, tidying up resident rooms and linen closets, and making beds. Additional duties may be assigned by nursing administration.

Requirements

• Some High School Required
• Excellent written and verbal communication and organization skills
• Ability to work well under pressure and be flexible
• Must be a team player and willing to help where/when needed
• Must have a sincere desire to work with the elderly, chronically ill, and disabled
• Ability to build rapport with patients/residents
• Compassionate and caring demeanor
• Must demonstrate excellent customer service skills and eagerness to help

Nice To Haves

• Healthcare industry working experience preferred, not required
• Previous experience with geriatric/short term rehabilitation/Alzheimer’s patients is desirable

Responsibilities

• Assisting with meal service
• Passing and collecting of trays
• Monitoring day room while engaging with residents

• Informing the Nurse or CNA of any resident needs or changes noted in resident’s condition
• Performing resident transport
• Distributing meal trays and setting up meals in front of the resident
• Transporting residents to designated dining area for meals and assisting seating at appropriate table
• Assisting with handwashing
• Distributing beverages
• Assisting residents with obtaining meal or snack alternates, opening containers, etc.
• Assisting with transport to/from programs back to units to assist activity staff
• Supervising residents in patio area during nice weather
• Monitoring assigned Community Room and assisting residents as needed
• Tidying up resident’s rooms, linen closets, and making beds
