About The Position

This position works under the supervision of the Assistant Head Nurse/Charge Nurse and assists in clerical duties related to patient records on a Clinical Nursing unit. The role may require working on other nursing units as needed. The Unit Assistant utilizes positive communication skills and demonstrates the ability to communicate appropriately with all age groups served by Salinas Valley Memorial Healthcare System. The position also involves entering and processing physician orders, facilitating communication for the nursing unit, maintaining patient records, assisting with ordering and maintaining department supplies, and contributing to cost-effective patient care by monitoring the use of time, equipment, and supplies. The role requires maintaining and improving the organization and operations of nursing stations, ensuring a safe and clean work environment, and complying with safety policies and procedures. The Unit Assistant actively participates in achieving departmental goals and demonstrates flexibility regarding changes in hospital or department activities.

Requirements

  • High school education or GED.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English.
  • Job requires hand and eye coordination.
  • Dexterity of extremities.

Nice To Haves

  • Unit Assistant certification preferred.
  • One year experience in an acute care facility preferred.
  • Computer skills preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Enters and processes Physician orders.
