About The Position

The Data Center Operations Engineer is responsible for the delivery of best-practice systems and problem resolution on all data center electrical and mechanical infrastructure (UPS, MV electrical systems, generators, cooling systems etc.). This is a Union Facility Engineer position with a probationary period of 90 days. The Communications Workers of America (CWA) is the applicable union, and applicants are expected to become members after the probationary period. Shift assignments are determined by seniority and a bid process held every six weeks. Current shifts are: Nights: 11:30 PM – 7:30 AM, Afternoons: 3:30 PM – 11:30 PM, Days: 7:30 AM – 3:30 PM. A shift differential of 10% is applied to all hours worked on Afternoon and Night shifts. Benefits are consistent with the JLL benefit package, with the exception of vacation time (which is based on seniority) and personal holidays (a maximum of four per year, authorized at the beginning of each calendar year). Accrued Sick Leave is 8 hours per month worked.

Requirements

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with UPS, MV electrical systems, generators, and cooling systems.
  • Experience with HVAC systems, including chilled water, condenser water, hot water, fuel oil, natural gas, air conditioning, and ventilation systems.
  • Experience with plumbing systems, including domestic water, sanitary drainage, and storm drainage systems.
  • Experience with electrical systems operating 480 volts or less.
  • Experience with lighting systems, including high bay light replacement.
  • Experience with emergency generator systems.
  • Experience with building automation systems.
  • Experience with fire and life safety systems, including fire and smoke detection, fire suppression, and refrigerant gas fire extinguishing systems.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative maintenance, including inspections, lubrication, testing, adjustment, and scheduled maintenance tasks.
  • Conduct corrective maintenance and repair, including all repairs, replacements, and adjustments of equipment.
  • Perform general building maintenance, including inspection, repair, removal, replacement, and touch-up painting of ceilings, floors, walls, partitions, windows, doors, and roofs.
  • Utilize predictive maintenance techniques such as infrared scans, oil analysis, Megger testing, and Multi-amp testing.
  • Operate, maintain, and repair HVAC systems, including chilled water systems, chillers, heat exchangers, pumps, piping, valves, and accessories.
  • Maintain condenser water systems, cooling towers, pumps, piping, valves, filters, and accessories.
  • Maintain hot water systems, boilers, pumps, fan coil units, unit heaters, radiation, coils, piping, valves, and accessories.
  • Maintain fuel oil systems, storage tanks, pumps, filters, piping, valves, and accessories.
  • Maintain natural gas systems.
  • Maintain water treatment systems, pumps, tanks, feeders, controls, piping, valves, and accessories.
  • Maintain air conditioning and ventilation systems, including AC units, HV units, fans, filters, ductwork, dampers, and accessories.
  • Perform maintenance services for plumbing systems, including domestic water, booster pump systems, water heaters, circulating pumps, water softeners, drinking water fountains, piping, valves, and backflow preventers.
  • Maintain sanitary drainage systems, sewage ejectors, roof drains, area drains, piping, valves, and accessories.
  • Maintain storm drainage systems, sewage ejectors, roof drains, area drains, piping, valves, and accessories.
  • Perform maintenance services for electrical systems operating 480 volts or less, including secondary power systems, switchgear, motor control centers, starters, disconnects, panel boards, circuit breakers, transformers, distribution centers, wiring, devices, receptacles, and accessories.
  • Maintain lighting systems, including panel boards, circuit breakers, transformers, relays, controls, fixtures, ballasts, wiring, and switches for all building, parking, and grounds lighting, including high bay light replacement.
  • Maintain the emergency generator system, including diesel generators and controls, transfer switches, switchgear, panel boards, wiring, and accessories (not associated with a network).
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance and repair on the building automation system.
  • Perform day-to-day maintenance on fire and life safety systems, including fire and smoke detection equipment, alarm systems, flow detectors, HVAC smoke control systems, devices, and accessories.
  • Perform maintenance on fire suppression systems, including fire pumps, jockey pumps, sprinklers, hose cabinets, extinguishers, piping, valves, and accessories.
  • Perform maintenance on refrigerant gas fire extinguishing systems, including storage tanks and accessories.
