About The Position

The Uniform Patrol Deputy is responsible for patrolling assigned areas, responding to dispatched calls, and conducting investigations. This role involves making arrests, issuing citations, responding to accidents, providing emergency services, and preparing detailed reports. Deputies are also required to testify in court when subpoenaed. The position operates on a 12-hour rotating shift schedule.

Requirements

  • At least 21 years old.
  • Citizen of the United States or a permanent resident.
  • Minimum of a high school diploma or a high school equivalency recognized by the State of Louisiana.
  • At least one year of experience as a Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certified law enforcement officer in a full-time position, whose job duties included armed duty with the power of arrest; or
  • Louisiana Law Enforcement POST Certification; or
  • 1 year of continuous active duty in the military; or
  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university; or
  • 80+ semester hours from a regionally accredited college or university in a Bachelor's Degree program.
  • Must pass a criminal history check, physical fitness test, polygraph examination, psychological risk assessment and pre-employment medical exam and drug test.
  • No felony convictions.
  • No convictions of perjury, false statements, or moral turpitude as an adult.
  • No illegal marijuana use in the last 12 months.
  • No illegal use of prescription drugs in the last 24 months.
  • No use of illegal drugs (other than marijuana) in the last 24 months.

Responsibilities

  • Patrol assigned area.
  • Stop cars for violations.
  • Investigate loitering.
  • Make arrests and issue citations.
  • Respond to accidents, providing first aid and emergency services until paramedics arrive.
  • Respond to dispatched calls.
  • Conduct traffic, criminal and other investigations.
  • Prepare detailed and well written reports.
  • Testify in court in response to subpoenas.
