About The Position

Responsible for deterring crime through regular patrolling of neighborhoods, highways and other public spaces in Montgomery County. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 21 years old and able to pass a background check
  • Complete an accredited Police Academy (KLETC, etc.)
  • Ability to be aware of the cultural, ethnic, and social backgrounds of citizens
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to multitask and prioritize work
  • Ability to fulfill all duties with minimal supervision and to work independently
  • Assess situations rapidly and make logical decisions in a timely manner
  • Analyze facts and exercise sound judgment
  • Ability to effectively manage projects and multiple priorities simultaneously
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Problem-solving and critical thinking skills
  • Strong math, spelling, computer, and calculator abilities

Responsibilities

  • Patrols assigned areas, which include neighborhoods, highways, business districts, and other public spaces, to deter criminal activity
  • Responds to emergency and non-emergency calls promptly related to crimes in progress, traffic accidents, disturbances, medical emergencies, and other urgent situations
  • Handles routine calls such as noise complaints, property disputes, and community requests for assistance
  • Prevents crime through a visible presence in the community
  • Interacts with residents to build relationships, provide crime prevention advice, and encourage community cooperation
  • Enforces traffic laws by issuing citations for speeding, running red lights, driving under the influence, and other traffic infractions
  • Enforces criminal laws, arrests suspects, and investigates crimes that may occur
  • Responds to traffic accidents, assesses the scene for injuries or hazards, provides emergency assistance, and documents
  • Assists people in need by interacting with residents and local businesses to understand their concerns and offer safety tips
  • Responds to natural disasters or large-scale emergencies to ensure public safety
  • Handles high stress situations such as hostage scenarios, barricades, or violent disturbances, working with specialized units
  • Testifies in court about incidents they investigated or arrests they made, providing testimony based on their reports
  • Works with other agencies to assist in other jurisdictions during large-scale events or emergencies
  • Enforces and maintains compliance with all federal, state, and local laws and ordinances
  • Performs other duties as assigned or deemed necessary
  • Complies with all organizational and departmental policies and procedures
  • Operates all job-related equipment, machinery, tools, and other aids as required or needed
