The mission of a Special Olympics Coach is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competitions in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disability. This role offers continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy, and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills, and friendships with their families, other Special Olympics athletes, and the community. The coach will teach and train athletes, determine the training sequence for skill development, use effective communication, identify and address behavior challenges, and reinforce good sportsmanship and respect. The position also involves managing the program, including season planning, practice planning, developing individual athlete plans, managing relationships with parents and volunteers, and ensuring a safe environment with provisions for emergencies and minor injuries. Additional responsibilities include attending work promptly and regularly, maintaining confidentiality, and fostering satisfactory working relationships.
