About The Position

It is the job of every assistant coach to instill positive and ethical values in student athletes through sports. The head coach is responsible for themselves, their assistant coaches and their players in the program. The program should facilitate the social and emotional growth of every student athlete while also improving athletic skills.

  • Must complete the Employment Eligibility Verification (Form I-9) in person before beginning employment.
  • Must submit to a drug screen.
  • Must report all former employers in which you may have had direct contact with minors.
  • Must submit the contact information of the current employer, all former school employers, and all former employers not school related.
  • Should include contact information for organizations in which you have volunteered, coached, mentored, tutored or otherwise have direct contact with minors.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the administration of the middle school’s Unified Bocce team.
  • Liaison regularly with the school’s athletic director and Special Olympics Maryland to ensure quality program standards are being met, and policies are being followed.
  • Develop and implement practice plans in which bocce instruction is provided to all participants at least once a week.
  • Organize and lead all practice sessions with the recruitment and support of assistant coaches.
  • Impart the philosophy of a positive inclusive sports experience by following the principles of Unified Sports®.
  • Plan and manage competition strategies for individuals and the team at Unified Bocce matches.
  • Handle all paperwork requirements and forms required by the school system and Special Olympics Maryland.
  • If serving as a host site for a Unified Bocce match, recruit and train volunteers to manage the event.
  • Attend a mandatory Unified Sports® Bocce Coaches’ Training.
  • Performs related work as required or assigned by the Principal and/or Activities Director.
