About The Position

This 10-week paid internship program is designed to provide interns with a comprehensive understanding of underwriting principles and procedures within the healthcare industry. Interns will gain hands-on experience in evaluating risk for both new and renewal business, conducting financial analysis of benefit designs, and collaborating with sales and account management teams on pricing negotiations. The program also includes assisting with financial settlements and actively participating in HCSC’s formal internship program, which focuses on leveraging skills to support business objectives and member-focused solutions. Interns will work closely with cross-functional teams, contribute to project work, analyze information, and support the development of solutions. They will learn and apply organizational processes, programs, and technologies, demonstrating increasing independence and ownership of assigned deliverables.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a bachelor’s degree; rising senior with a major in a business-related field. Other majors may be considered.
  • Graduation date between December 2027 and June 2028
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0.
  • Available for the full duration of the 10-week program.
  • Unrestricted authorization to work in the United States; sponsorship is not available for this role.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills including verbal and written communication
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Practical, developed PC skills, especially Excel and Word
  • Basic math competencies
  • Work management skills including ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage time

Responsibilities

  • Learn various underwriting principles and procedures, including how to evaluate risk for renewals and new business for employer-sponsored healthcare.
  • Assist in financial analysis around benefit designs for customers.
  • Assist with reporting and collaborating with sales & account management teams on pricing negotiations.
  • Assist with completion of financial settlements.
  • Actively participate in HCSC’s formal internship program that leverages your skills, knowledge, and capabilities while providing meaningful experience supporting business objectives and member-focused solutions.
  • Contribute to project work, analyze information, and support the development of solutions that address organizational needs.
  • Learn and apply specific aspects of the organization's processes, programs, and technologies while demonstrating increasing independence and ownership of assigned deliverables.
  • Own components of project work and deliverables with guidance from an assigned mentor and manager.
  • Conduct research, analyze data and information, and develop recommendations that inform real business decisions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Support departmental initiatives that improve business outcomes and the member and client experience.
  • Develop and deliver a final internship presentation to department leadership covering the project, results, and recommendations.
  • Maintain complete confidentiality of company business and comply with HIPAA, Diversity Principles, Corporate Integrity, and applicable compliance policies.
