As an Underwriting Consultant, you will play a key role in communicating underwriting decisions and influencing case outcomes, while acting as a trusted liaison between Sales, Underwriting, New Business, and Strategy. What you will accomplish with us As an Underwriting Consultant, you will be at the heart of our mission. Your key responsibilities will include: Responding to daily inquiries related to underwriting and post‑issue underwriting in a fast‑paced environment. Providing pre‑underwriting opinions (medical, non‑medical, and financial) and supporting effective case positioning. Analyzing cases in accordance with underwriting guidelines, assessing risks and requirements, and formulating sound recommendations. Repositioning cases where feasible to improve underwriting outcomes and overall placement success. Clearly and professionally explaining underwriting requirements, decisions, and processes to advisors, MGA partners, and Sales teams (brokerage, career, WFG). Supporting the field by resolving service issues, assisting with escalations, participating in advisor calls, meetings, webinars, and training sessions, and sharing insights on market trends and risk evolution.

Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of individual insurance products and underwriting fundamentals.
  • Ability to clearly explain and position underwriting decisions with sound judgment.
  • Analytical, solution‑oriented mindset and knows when and how to escalate appropriately.
  • Building strong, collaborative relationships with internal and external partners.
  • 2 to 4 years of experience as a Senior Underwriter.
  • A post‑secondary degree or diploma.
  • FLMI and FALU designations, or actively working toward obtaining them.
  • Intermediate level of English is required, as the individual will be required to read, analyze, and interpret medical documents in English on a daily basis, as well as communicate regularly, both verbally and in writing, with English-speaking underwriters across Canada.
