About The Position

Starr is seeking an experienced Underwriter to help build and manage a profitable financial institutions portfolio. The position is responsible for underwriting new and renewal business, developing broker and client relationships, and applying sound underwriting judgment to financial institutions risks. It reports to regional leadership and is based in Starr’s New York Region office.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, insurance, or a related field.
1–3+ years of direct underwriting experience, preferably in financial institutions or financial lines.
Ability to analyze complex risks and make sound underwriting decisions.
Strong communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
Ability to collaborate with a team and external partners.
Proficiency with relevant underwriting platforms and Microsoft Office Suite.

Responsibilities

Solicit, evaluate, and underwrite new and renewal D&O, EPL, FID, E&O, and Crime & Fidelity property business from diverse retail production sources.
Analyze submitted documentation against company underwriting standards and guidelines, requesting additional information when necessary.
Prepare and present quotation terms and conditions to brokers and clients within assigned underwriting authority.
Develop and maintain strong relationships with brokers, clients, and internal business partners to drive profitable portfolio growth.
Prepare written referrals with recommendations for risks outside assigned authority and submit them to the appropriate approval authority.
Maintain comprehensive file documentation in accordance with company procedures.
