About The Position

Jet Direct Mortgage is seeking an experienced, ambitious Senior Mortgage Underwriter specializing in VA loans to join a fast-paced, goal-oriented, supportive environment. The role is based in Saddle Brook, New Jersey, and involves evaluating mortgage applications, ensuring regulatory compliance, making and communicating underwriting decisions, and managing a substantial loan pipeline accurately and promptly.

Requirements

• Current CHUMS Certification.
• At least 5 years of FHA and conventional underwriting experience.
• Strong ability to work in multiple systems, including Encompass, in a paperless environment.
• Knowledge of regulatory, policy, and compliance issues in the mortgage industry.
• Knowledge of regulatory issues in underwriting, finance, and real estate.
• Ability to multitask and meet guidelines.
• Strong knowledge of income calculations, tax returns, credit reports, and identifying red flags.
• Hands-on experience with cooperative and condominium lending.
• In-depth knowledge of collateral analysis and appraisal and title reports.
• Thorough working knowledge of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac underwriting guidelines and automated underwriting engines (DU/LP).
• Honest, ethical, hardworking, and able to focus on accuracy and important details.

Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with government and bank regulations.
• Apply knowledge of income calculations, tax returns, credit reports, and identification of red flags.
• Conduct lending work involving cooperatives and condominiums.
• Analyze collateral and review appraisal and title reports.
• Prepare customer commitments and include any additional required conditions.
• Communicate approval, suspense, counter, or denial decisions to appropriate individuals within 30 days of application.
• Manage a substantial pipeline of loans in a timely and accurate manner.
