About The Position

Tokio Marine Canada (TMCan) is seeking a detail-oriented Underwriter to support its underwriting team in evaluating risk, analyzing financial data, and delivering high-quality service to brokers and clients. This role is ideal for someone with strong analytical skills and a solid understanding of commercial insurance principles. TMCan is a Canadian early-stage entrepreneurial commercial P&C insurer based in Toronto, partnering with select brokers to deliver tailored business insurance solutions across Canada. As part of the Tokio Marine Group, they collaborate under a shared framework while maintaining autonomy and local decision-making.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, Economics, or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of experience in insurance, underwriting support, or financial analysis.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills with attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Excel and data analysis tools.
  • Excellent communication and organizational abilities.

Nice To Haves

  • Progress toward or interest in professional designations (e.g., CIP, CRM) is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze financial statements, loss histories, and exposure data to support underwriting decisions.
  • Prepare underwriting files, including risk summaries, pricing support, and documentation.
  • Assist underwriters in assessing new business, renewals, and policy endorsements.
  • Conduct market and industry research to identify trends impacting risk and pricing.
  • Ensure data accuracy within underwriting systems and maintain organized records.
  • Collaborate with brokers and internal teams to gather required information and resolve inquiries.
  • Support portfolio monitoring, including tracking performance metrics and identifying areas of concern.
