About The Position

As an Underwriter, you will be responsible for evaluating new business applications, ensuring eligibility based on company guidelines, and reviewing renewal policies to maintain a profitable book of business. You will have the opportunity to work with agents, analyze inspection reports, assess risk, and determine the appropriate course of action.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or GED is required; a Bachelor's or Associate's Degree preferred.
  • Minimum of two years of Property & Casualty underwriting, agency, or insurance operations experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must possess a 4-40 Customer Service Representative, 2-20 General Lines, or 20-44 Resident Personal Lines License.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to learn and navigate multiple software platforms.
  • Desire to contribute to a positive work environment.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced, production-driven environment.
  • Strong communication skills both verbally and in writing. Ability to interact on a professional level with agents and policyholders.
  • Exhibits critical thinking and analytical skills with high attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage workload effectively.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage a high-volume workload while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to interpret underwriting guidelines and consistently apply sound judgment.
  • Maintains the integrity of the company and provides exceptional, best-in-class customer service.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and evaluate new and renewal business to determine eligibility and proper risk selection.
  • Review applications, inspections, photographs, and supporting documentation to make underwriting decisions in accordance with company guidelines.
  • Communicate directly with agents regarding underwriting decisions, inspections, policy changes, cancellations, and required documentation.
  • Manage an assigned underwriting workload while meeting established service levels and production expectations.
  • Handle a high volume of underwriting transactions while maintaining accuracy, quality, and service standards.
  • Exercise sound judgment when evaluating risk and determining the appropriate underwriting action.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
