About The Position
The Underwriter's primary responsibility is to underwrite individual risks through a demonstration of skills and abilities in the fundamentals of coverage, terms and conditions, risk assessment, financial proficiency, actuarial fundamentals, marketing and communications, and systems and programs. Duties may include soliciting new and renewal submissions from brokers, determining terms and conditions and complex rating plans, binding coverage, documenting underwriting files, and handling more complex files and portfolios within underwriting authority.
Requirements

- Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook

- College Degree

Responsibilities
- Underwrite individual risks
- Offer coverage, terms and conditions which generate a profit for the Company while meeting the needs of the customer
- Identify risk exposures, special or common hazards, and appropriate controls
- Select risk based on exposure and risk analysis
- Analyze claims and quantify losses
- Understand financial statements and ratios used in risk analysis
- Understand insurance financial fundamentals and the impact of underwriting decisions on company assets
- Understand credit risk
- Understand loss trends, loss triangles, and ratemaking
- Quantify risk based on experience history and forecasting methods
- Sell and negotiate to achieve bottom line profitability for the Company
- Make presentations and communicate articulately
- Base communications on strategic thinking
- Manage producer strategy
- Use systems and software programs needed to conduct daily business
- Solicit new and renewal submissions from brokers
- Determine terms and conditions and complex rating plans
- Bind coverage
- Document the underwriting files
- Handle more complex files and portfolios within underwriting authority
