About The Position

Austin Financial Services, Inc. is currently looking for an Underwriter. This is a connected mobile role. The Underwriter is responsible for providing strategic oversight to the underwriting team. The Underwriter will be responsible for managing the underwriting processes, assessing risk, and ensuring the quality, accuracy and oversight of the underwriting decisions. This position requires extensive experience in underwriting, strong leadership skills and the ability to drive results to meet AFS’s goals and objectives.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or a related field preferred.
  • Professional Certifications preferred (CPU, CFAIA, CISA, etc.)
  • 5 - 8 years of relevant experience in a similar position, preferably within the financial industry.
  • Analytical skills to evaluate complex financial data and access risk effectively.
  • Effective comprehension of practices, principles, and methodologies, as well as relevant industry standards.
  • Excellent verbal, written and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines
  • Ability to identify issues, take actions and proactively resolve issues
  • Ability to work independently and maintain level of motivation with regular, routine tasks
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and audit software tools.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute underwriting strategies, policies, and procedures to reduce risk and achieve business objectives.
  • Collaborate with partners to align underwriting practices with company goals and trends.
  • Oversee the underwriting process and access risk associated with client applications and other financial products.
  • Determine decisions regarding approvals, denials or modifications based on risk analysis and specific guidelines.
  • Monitor and manage the underwriting portfolio, tracking key metrics, identifying trends, and implementing corrective actions to mitigate risks and maximize profitability.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure seamless coordination of underwriting activities.
  • Comply with regulatory requirements, industry standards and company policies throughout the underwriting process.
  • Conduct audits to review the accuracy and completeness of underwriting decisions.
  • Remain informed of market trends and underwriting practices.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned by the CCO and or CEO in support of business operations.
