About The Position

Responsible for evaluating International Group Benefit offerings of highest financial impact and complexity with authority up to 3,000,000 USD. Under the direction of the Head of IGP Technical & Underwriting takes the lead role on the high scope and complex Underwriting initiatives and projects. Lead training and development initiatives for IGP Underwriting team and other IGP functional areas on technical functions. May participate in and lead all aspects of Network Partner auditing.

Requirements

  • College graduate or business equivalent
  • Typically 10 or more years of industry underwriting experience or exposure
  • Expert knowledge of industry Employee Benefit underwriting standards
  • Strong knowledge of International Group Benefit offerings and landscape
  • Expert organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Expert-level analytical skills and the ability to define, research, and resolve problems
  • Expert knowledge of Employee Benefits underwriting and pricing
  • Excellent ability to create and maintain customer relationships
  • Ability to prioritize own work effectively and ensure optimization of resources to handle daily and weekly workflow through the department
  • Expert ability to comprehend, retain, and apply current technical information to daily work issues
  • Serves as subject matter expert
  • Expert knowledge of Employee Benefit plans, riders, benefits
  • Expert knowledge of Multinational Group Benefits regulations and terminology

Responsibilities

  • Manages all aspects of underwriting process, review and recommendations for most complex cases
  • Serves as a first-level supervisor, coordinating workflow for the IGP Underwriting group
  • Provides input in performance reviews and other people-management related decisions for more junior staff
  • Serves as a subject matter expert on underwriting and technical accountabilities supporting IGP management and other IGP functional areas
  • Leads complex, large in scope, department wide projects which might include communicating with and coordinating participants with other departments
  • May manage all aspects of Network Partner review process for their assigned jurisdiction, formal appeal review and contestable claim review for applications written for Group products
  • Audit applications underwritten for Group products to ensure underwriting decisions, correspondence, and administrative processing have been followed in accordance with established guidelines and policies
  • Audit Network Partner underwriting and risk management practices to ensure they are in accordance with our established guidelines
  • Process formal underwriting appeals and complaints
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Assist management with various research projects pertaining to risk assessment and expense management
