About The Position

MEM Insurance is seeking a detail-oriented and collaborative Underwriter II to join their Underwriting team. In this role, the individual will manage their own book of business, applying their knowledge of workers compensation and MEM’s underwriting strategy to drive profitable growth and deliver exceptional service to customers and partners. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Insurance and Risk Management, or a related field—or equivalent combination of education and underwriting experience.
  • 3–5 years of workers compensation or property and casualty insurance experience required.
  • Valid driver’s license required.

Nice To Haves

  • Insurance designations such as RWCS, AINS, AU, or CPCU are highly encouraged.

Responsibilities

  • Independently manage an assigned book of business, applying MEM’s underwriting philosophy, rating methodology, and guidelines.
  • Evaluate, select, and price new and renewal business within granted underwriting authority.
  • Analyze risk exposures, trends, and loss history using underwriting tools, predictive modeling, and forecasting.
  • Collaborate with producers and policyholders—both virtually and in person—to build strong, consultative relationships.
  • Communicate underwriting decisions clearly and professionally, ensuring alignment with regulatory rules and company standards.
  • Partner with Safety and Risk Services to assess and mitigate risk.
  • Refer business outside of authority as appropriate and support sound underwriting decisions.
  • Participate in cross-functional projects and committees to support company and departmental goals.
  • Serve as a mentor and technical resource for less experienced underwriters and underwriting assistants.
