About The Position

The Underwriter II will be a detail-oriented and analytical member of the operations team, responsible for evaluating and decisioning a range of Business Purpose Loans, including Residential Transitional Loans (RTL), DSCR (non-consumer), Bridge, Ground-Up Construction, and Portfolio products. Key responsibilities involve assessing borrower creditworthiness, analyzing loan structures, reviewing collateral, and providing clear, risk-based recommendations. This experienced-level role is suited for individuals with a strong background in RTL and DSCR products who excel in a fast-paced setting.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of underwriting experience in private lending, non-QM, or similar BPL environments
  • Proficiency in DSCR loan analysis and RTL loan mechanics
  • Experience evaluating 1–4 unit investment properties and residential collateral standards
  • Familiarity with entity structures (LLCs, Corporations, Trusts)
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities
  • High attention to detail and a risk-management mindset
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently in a deadline-driven, high-volume environment

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Loan Origination Systems (e.g., LendingWise, Encompass, Salesforce, or custom LOS platforms)
  • Experience working with brokers and investor guidelines

Responsibilities

  • Underwrite Bridge, Renovation, Ground-Up Construction, and DSCR loans in accordance with company guidelines and investor overlays
  • Evaluate borrower profiles including creditworthiness (business and/or individual), DSCR metrics, exit strategies, and collateral
  • Interpret property valuations (BPOs, appraisals, AVMs) and flag for inconsistencies
  • Analyze construction budgets, scopes of work, and project timelines to ensure feasibility of projects
  • Review loan files including credit reports, bank statements, leases, title, insurance, and entity documents
  • Maintain clear, actionable documentation supporting all underwriting decisions
  • Apply judgment on exceptions and propose well-supported decisions for approval, counteroffer, or decline
  • Partner with originators, processors, and leadership to ensure smooth file flow and pipeline efficiency
  • Communicate proactively to resolve conditions, meet deadlines, and accelerate closing timelines
