About The Position

We’re looking for an Underwriter I, Commercial Lines, to join our growing team! This role involves participating in broker visits, insurance industry functions, and marketing events to support broker relationship development. The underwriter will use negotiating skills to maintain healthy relationships within and outside the company, make recommendations to improve department processes and increase efficiency, and analyze requests for quotes to recommend innovative solutions. A key focus is on building relationships while underwriting and rating policies, and providing technical advice, recommendations, and mentoring to team members. The role also requires assessing, evaluating, and negotiating moderate to complex risks.

Requirements

• 2 – 5 years of commercial P&C underwriting experience
• Very strong sales and customer service skills
• Maintain an expert and current understanding of all relevant Commercial Underwriting Guides and instructions related thereto
• Demonstrate the ability to handle complex risks
• Awareness of local community conditions and insurance issues
• Strong negotiating skills and business savvy
• Initiative and ability to work under pressure
• Sound knowledge of Microsoft Office products and computer tools.
• Must be eligible to work in Canada.

Nice To Haves

• Completion of or progress toward a CIP designation is an asset
• No Canadian work experience required
