About The Position

Torrent Technologies is seeking a talented Flood Underwriter to join their Underwriting team. This role can be based in Kalispell or performed remotely nationwide. The Flood Underwriter will work under the supervision of the Underwriting Manager, reviewing and analyzing quotations while servicing an existing book of business. The position involves underwriting new submissions to ensure policies are correct per guidelines, processing endorsements, cancellations, and reinstatements, handling billing issues, and completing policy issuance. The role requires reviewing underwriting information such as applications, photographs, elevation certificates, and third-party resources to accurately underwrite policies. Additionally, the underwriter will provide customer service to agents via phone, online chat, and email, meeting required production KPIs, and de-escalating difficult customer situations to resolution. Active participation in group activities like daily huddles, team meetings, and training opportunities is also expected.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1+ year of insurance underwriting or recent flood insurance experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Basic to intermediate technical knowledge of systems and procedures, with attention to detail.
  • Basic computer knowledge and proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite, particularly Word, Excel, and Outlook.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous customer service experience.
  • 2+ years of underwriting experience with an ANFI designation.
  • Experience with underwriting methodologies and flood insurance practices, along with familiarity with organizational insurance procedures and policies.
  • Strong time management skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for interacting with team members and clients.

Responsibilities

  • Underwrite new submissions to ensure new policies are correct, per guidelines.
  • Process endorsements, cancellations, and reinstatements, handle billing issues, and complete policy issuance.
  • Review all underwriting information, including applications, photographs, elevation certificates, and third-party internet resources to accurately underwrite policies.
  • Provide customer service to agents via phone support, online chat, and emails, meeting required production KPIs as defined by leadership.
  • Deescalate difficult customer situations and bring them to complete resolution.
  • Actively participate in group activities, including daily huddles, team meetings, and training opportunities.
