About The Position
This position is part of the Underwriter Development Program at Great American Insurance Group, designed to equip individuals with the skills and experience needed to become commercial insurance underwriters. The program involves hands-on learning, mentorship, and exposure to various business areas within property and casualty insurance, including underwriting, claims, operations, and product management. Participants will gain insights from experienced professionals and build a strong foundation for a career in the insurance industry. The seven-week program focuses on developing fundamental skills, technical, analytical, and leadership abilities, while adapting to the evolving insurance marketplace. The program starts in January 2027 and is located at the company's downtown Cincinnati, OH headquarters.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree with a minimum 3.2 GPA.
- Demonstrated leadership experience through extracurricular activities, internships, co-ops, campus organizations, work experience, or community involvement.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Interest in commercial insurance, underwriting, and continuous professional development.
- Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without the need for current or future sponsorship.
Responsibilities
- Use independent judgment and initiative to support business goals.
- Provide exceptional customer service to internal and external partners.
- Analyze coverage requests, limits, and exposures to determine appropriate underwriting terms.
- Apply underwriting guidelines, rating methodologies, and applicable insurance laws and regulations.
- Order and evaluate underwriting reports, including motor vehicle records, loss history reports, inspections, and loss control assessments.
- Assess risk quality and compliance with company guidelines and recommend appropriate loss prevention actions.
- Price business in accordance with company underwriting standards.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with customers, agents, and colleagues.
- Complete assigned training, education, and professional development activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
