About The Position

The Associate Underwriter applies underwriting principles for groups of various sizes in the evaluation of risk for new and renewed groups. This role assesses clients' needs and matches appropriate products, rates, and benefits. The Associate Underwriter defines populations, computes and negotiates rates, and reviews submitted proposal material for completeness, requesting missing information as needed. They input census information for the generation of manual rates, submit rates, and prepare proposal information, ensuring proposals are created in a timely manner and accurately reflect rates and plan designs with consistency. Additionally, this role assembles and reviews past claims experience on existing groups to determine appropriate renewal rates and plans to offer, approves exceptions, and completes underwriting analysis and rate/plan design on an assigned block of business. The Associate Underwriter interfaces with the internal sales team, as well as brokers and clients.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and one year of experience as an underwriting analyst.
  • Education must be obtained through an accredited institution. Degree will be verified.
  • OR Bachelor's degree plus three years of health care experience
  • Demonstrated beginner skills with word processing and spreadsheets.
  • Manual dexterity, seeing.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Accounting, Statistics, or business related field.
  • Education must be obtained through an accredited institution. Degree will be verified.
  • Health plans experience.
  • SQL or visual basic experience.

  • Approves exceptions.
  • Completes underwriting analysis and rate/plan design on an assigned block of business.
  • Interfaces with the internal sales team as well as brokers and clients.
