Together, we’ll continue to set the standard for excellence in construction and site development. Reporting to the Foreman, Underground Labourers play an important role in supporting the safe and efficient installation, maintenance, and repair of underground utility infrastructure. This is a physically demanding, outdoor position well suited for individuals who enjoy teamwork, working around live utilities, and seeing tangible results at the end of each day.

Requirements

  • 1+ years of experience in underground construction, or utility-related work
  • Ability to lift and carry 50lbs in various weather conditions
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License with a Driver’s Abstract showing no more than 6 demerits and no major infractions

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with deep underground utilities (water, sewer, storm) is considered an asset

Responsibilities

  • Actively contribute to the safety culture, promoting a safe and productive work environment
  • Support crews with the installation, maintenance, and repair of underground utilities (water, storm, and sanitary systems)
  • Assist with trenching, pipe placement, backfilling, and compaction while maintaining grade and specifications
  • Safely expose live utilities through hand digging and hydrovac support as required
  • Load, unload, move, and organize materials, tools, and equipment on site
  • Assist with pipe installation, including aligning, bedding, and prepping materials
  • Support site grading and restoration activities following underground installation
  • Set up, maintain, and remove traffic control devices; direct traffic when required
  • Act as a spotter for equipment operators to ensure safe and precise movement of equipment and materials
  • Operate small tools and equipment such as plate tampers, jackhammers, saws, and hand tools (as authorized)
  • Maintain clean, organized, and hazard-free work areas at all times
  • Follow direction from Foremen and Lead Hands to ensure quality and productivity standards are met
  • Assist with daily equipment cleaning and basic maintenance
