Underground Foreman – Civil Construction

About The Position
We are seeking an experienced Underground Foreman to lead field crews in the installation of underground utilities, including water, sanitary, and storm systems. This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for directing daily site activities, coordinating crews and equipment, and ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and to specification. The ideal candidate is a strong leader who understands underground construction inside and out and can drive productivity while maintaining high-quality standards.
Requirements
- 5–10+ years of experience in underground civil construction
- Proven experience as a Foreman or Lead Hand on underground crews
- Strong knowledge of water, storm, and sanitary installation
- Strong knowledge of deep utilities and trenching practices
- Strong knowledge of bedding, backfill, and compaction requirements
- Ability to read and interpret engineered drawings and grades
- Experience working with laser and/or GPS grade systems
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- Experience with municipal and commercial development projects
- Valid driver’s license (Class 5 required; Class 3 considered an asset)

Responsibilities
- Lead and supervise underground utility crews in day-to-day operations
- Coordinate labor, equipment, and materials to meet production targets
- Install water, sanitary, and storm systems to line and grade
- Read and interpret drawings, grades, and specifications
- Work closely with Superintendents and Project Managers on scheduling and execution
- Ensure proper trenching, shoring, and safe excavation practices
- Oversee bedding, pipe installation, backfill, and compaction activities
- Monitor productivity and adjust crew activities to maintain efficiency
- Complete daily reports, track quantities, and document site progress
- Identify and resolve site issues proactively
- Enforce and promote a strong safety culture on all job sites
- Coordinate with inspectors, consultants, and other trades as required
