Requirements

  • Ability to understand and apply electrical theory in troubleshooting
  • Ability to apply math skills to the electrical trade
  • Possesses basic motor knowledge to trouble shoot, repair, inspect and install electric motors
  • Read, comprehend, and interpret the National Electric Code
  • Ability to install electrical systems including basic wiring, circuit installation, cables and switch gear up to 4160 volts
  • Make 4160 volt splice and terminate high voltage with supervision in a timely and workman like manner
  • Explain operation of power feeds for hoists
  • Explain operation of Avtron drive control units
  • Explain operation of PLC control boxes
  • Explain operation of hoist control cubicles
  • Explain operation of hoist brake control panels
  • Explain operation of shaft control boxes
  • Explain operation of Tiley H.M.I. control desk
  • Explain operation of pneumatic brake system
  • Explain operation of digital hoist supervision cubicles
  • Explain shaft communications (Bells)
  • Explain MSHA regulations for hoisting
  • Explain hoisting safeties
  • Demonstrate knowledge of transformers and AC circuits
  • Demonstrate knowledge of electrical protective devices
  • Demonstrate understanding of power feed circuits to and from substation to all transformers, motor control centers, starters and motors
  • Ability to maintain power distribution systems
  • Ability to set up over current and short circuit protection devices
