About The Position

The Underground Construction Miner plays a critical role in the extraction and development of mineral resources beneath the earth's surface. This position involves working in challenging underground environments to safely and efficiently excavate, support, and maintain mine structures. The miner is responsible for operating specialized equipment and tools to break rock, install supports, and ensure the stability of tunnels and shafts. Collaboration with engineering and safety teams is essential to adhere to regulatory standards and promote a safe working environment. Ultimately, the role contributes to the successful and sustainable production of valuable minerals while minimizing environmental impact.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid certification or training in underground mining operations or a related field.
• Experience operating underground mining equipment and familiarity with mining safety protocols.
• Ability to pass physical fitness assessments and medical examinations required for underground work.
• Knowledge of OSHA and MSHA regulations applicable to underground mining.
• The required skills enable the miner to safely and effectively operate complex underground mining machinery and tools, ensuring efficient excavation and material handling.
• Strong knowledge of safety regulations and hazard identification is essential to maintain a secure work environment and prevent accidents.
• Communication and teamwork skills are used daily to coordinate with colleagues and supervisors, facilitating smooth operations and quick response to any issues.

Nice To Haves

• Completion of an apprenticeship or vocational training program in mining or construction.
• Experience with specialized mining techniques such as cut-and-fill, room-and-pillar, or longwall mining.
• Certification in first aid and emergency response specific to mining environments.
• Familiarity with computerized mine planning and monitoring systems.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and experience with equipment maintenance.
• Preferred skills such as mechanical aptitude and familiarity with advanced mining techniques enhance the miner's ability to troubleshoot equipment problems and optimize mining processes.
• Additionally, proficiency in emergency response and first aid ensures preparedness for any underground incidents, contributing to overall workforce safety.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain underground mining equipment such as drills, loaders, and conveyors to facilitate excavation and material transport.
• Excavate and reinforce mine tunnels and shafts using appropriate techniques and materials to ensure structural integrity and worker safety.
• Conduct regular inspections of underground work areas to identify hazards, report unsafe conditions, and implement corrective measures.
• Collaborate with engineers, geologists, and safety personnel to plan and execute mining operations in compliance with safety regulations and operational goals.
• Monitor ventilation systems and environmental conditions to maintain air quality and safe working conditions underground.
• Assist in the installation and maintenance of ground support systems including rock bolts, mesh, and shotcrete.
• Maintain accurate records of work performed, equipment usage, and safety checks as required by company policies and regulatory agencies.
