About The Position

This recruitment will be used to fill up to three part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) Undergraduate Learning Assistant (ULA) positions for the School of Nuclear Science & Engineering (NSE) at Oregon State University (OSU). This position recruitment is for NSE 234, Fall 2026. This position performs a variety of duties in support of NSE course instruction. Responsibilities may include working with the instructor to assist with classroom and lab activities, holding office hours, and helping with grading. These duties will vary depending on the specific course requirements.

Requirements

  • Academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
  • Meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
  • Meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard (High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program; Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term; Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term; Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term; Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term)
  • Undergraduate Engineering Major
  • GPA greater than 3.25
  • Completion of course with a B or higher
  • Good communication skills
  • Students must complete FERPA training prior to starting position.
  • Must successfully complete a Criminal History Check and be determined to be position qualified as per OSU Standard 576-055-0000 et seq.
  • Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in Youth Programs may have additional Criminal History Checks every 2 years.
  • OSU will conduct a review of the National Sex Offender Public website prior to hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Major or Minor in Nuclear Science & Engineering
  • Previous undergraduate learning assistant experience
  • Knowledge of Canvas

Responsibilities

  • Assist with in-class activities and/or labs
  • Tutor students during regular office hours and/or in the classroom
  • Grade homework, quizzes and/or exams under instructor guidance
  • May assist with managing course materials on Canvas
  • Attend weekly meetings with the instructor of record
