About The Position

The Department of Mathematics in the Eberly College of Science has vacancies available for Undergraduate Research Assistants. The selected candidates will work in interdisciplinary research involving the development of mathematical models in one of the following areas, which should be specified in the application: 1) liquid droplet motion on complex surfaces; 2) behavioral interactions in population dynamics of saltwater crustaceans, including game theoretic approaches; 3) visualization of complex mechanical systems such as hanging chain or sandpile dynamics. Students will explore one of these areas via experiments, mathematical modeling, computer simulations, and analysis.

Requirements

  • Must be a current Penn State student.
  • Must specify area of research interest in the application.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with laboratory experiments
  • Experience with video image processing

Responsibilities

  • Work in interdisciplinary research involving the development of mathematical models in one of the following areas: liquid droplet motion on complex surfaces; behavioral interactions in population dynamics of saltwater crustaceans, including game theoretic approaches; or visualization of complex mechanical systems such as hanging chain or sandpile dynamics.
  • Explore chosen research area via experiments, mathematical modeling, computer simulations, and analysis.
