Undergraduate Engineering Intern - Mechanical Design

Mayo Clinic•Rochester, MN
•Onsite

About The Position

This full-time undergraduate internship is scheduled for Summer–Fall 2027, from May or June through December, and is onsite in Rochester, Minnesota. The Mechanical Engineering Design intern will join Mayo Clinic’s Mechanical Development Unit within the Division of Engineering, contributing mechanical engineering expertise to multidisciplinary projects developing devices and systems for Mayo Clinic providers and researchers. The intern will work alongside mechanical engineers and, depending on the project, colleagues from other engineering disciplines. One or more team members will provide work direction and guidance, and one or more mentors will provide instruction and assess performance. Project work may include computer-aided design using SolidWorks, prototype development with traditional and additive manufacturing technologies, verification testing, and engineering documentation. The broader internship provides relevant engineering experience through selected assignments that reinforce learning and benefit the work unit. Assignments take place within the Division of Engineering Quality Management System, including safety risk management, and within a multidisciplinary development environment. The intern is responsible for learning the Division’s and assigned work unit’s processes and completing internship-related assignments and reports for Mayo Clinic and, if applicable, the participating educational facility.
