About The Position

The 2027 NBA Summer Internship is a 10-week program running from June 7 through August 13, 2027. Participants learn about the business of basketball, develop career skills, and contribute to projects across departments at the NBA and its affiliate leagues. Interns also take part in professional development, community, and social programming. The program prioritizes rising seniors, with limited exceptions for graduate students based on business needs. Candidates are expected to have strong academic standing, communication skills, and leadership demonstrated through extracurricular or community activities.

Selected interns support data collection and analysis across areas such as content, media, fan engagement, digital products, and basketball initiatives. Interns may work with groups including Basketball Strategy & Growth, which supports analysis and technology related to on-court activities, and Data Strategy & Analytics, which analyzes fan and business data to inform decisions across the NBA and affiliated leagues. The roles require foundational mastery of AI technologies to execute projects and achieve business objectives.

The NBA currently provides eligible employees the option of working remotely one day per week. The internship pays $32 per hour. Requirements

• Be enrolled in an undergraduate program and entering senior year in the academic year following the internship.
• Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Have strong academic standing.
• Demonstrate leadership through relevant extracurricular or community activities.
• Demonstrate foundational mastery of AI technologies for project execution and business objectives.

Nice To Haves

• Majors typically well suited to the role include Business or Data Analytics, Computer Science, Data Engineering, Data Science, Economics, Finance, Information Systems, Sports or Technology Management, and Statistics.
• Experience or coursework with SQL, Python, or R.
• Experience with Snowflake tools and DBT.
• Knowledge of statistics and best practices in model development.
• Exposure to or experience using Tableau Desktop, including calculations, visualizations, and dashboard-development practices and techniques.
• Skilled presenter and facilitator.
• Strong project management skills.
• Strong proficiency in drafting documents and creating presentations using PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.
• Demonstrated passion for the sports industry and basketball.
• High attention to detail, design, and innovation.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate with data engineers, data analysts, and BI developers on end-to-end model development and deployment within NBA business infrastructure.
• Design statistical analyses and visualizations related to league structure, rule changes, gameplay, and competition-format improvements.
• Support implementation of technologies intended to improve player health, game integrity, and fan engagement across NBA properties.
• Perform cross-departmental quantitative analyses of on-court activities and trends to evaluate the NBA’s core product.
• Work with data governance managers to help ensure NBA data meets safety and privacy requirements.
• Collaborate with digital content and reporting teams to assess content performance across social and digital platforms and inform strategic decisions.
• Contribute to a cross-functional strategy and operations project with the Basketball Technology & Innovation team.
• Research potential applications of advanced tools and technologies to expand technical and analytical offerings.
• Update the CRM system with relevant sports technology news and contacts.
• Publish and maintain customized interactive reports and dashboards using Tableau Server.
