JOB SUMMARY The Undergraduate Academic Advisor, under the general supervision of the College of the Art's (COTA) Director of Academic Advising and Lead Advisors, and in consultation with department chair(s), advises undergraduate students on academic requirements, policies, and procedures. The advisor also supports programs and initiatives to enhance the academic success and retention of COTA's undergraduate students.

Requirements

  • Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job‑related field required.
  • Additional specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year‑for‑year basis.
  • Equivalent of two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field required. Experience should give evidence of competence and indicate the potential for further growth.
  • A master’s degree in a job‑related field may be substituted for one year of professional experience.
  • Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community.
  • Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures.
  • Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."

Nice To Haves

  • Academic advising experience in a higher education setting is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Educate and advise students on their academic requirements.
  • Assist with the implementation of admissions, advising, and enrollment policies and processes.
  • Assist with day-to-day coordination of the academic advising program.
  • Serve as a source of referral for academic and student support services.
