About The Position

Performs a variety of ultrasound examinations to help diagnose patient's condition. Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited school of ultrasound technology.
  • American Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (ARDMS) Certification, preferably in Abdomen and Obstetrics.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification accepted by the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Knowledge of proper procedures and protocols for performing a variety of ultrasound scans.
  • Knowledge of anatomy and physiology.
  • Knowledge of patient preparation and tolerance assessment.
  • Knowledge of pathology assessment.
  • Knowledge of various pieces of equipment used in performance of ultrasound scans.
  • Knowledge of department and hospital safety practices and principles.
  • Knowledge of patient rights.
  • Knowledge of age specific patient patient care practices.
  • Knowledge of infection control policies and practices.
  • Knowledge of handling, storage, use and disposal of hazardous materials.
  • Knowledge of department and hospital emergency response policies and procedures.
  • Ability to work in a typical clinical setting and use standard equipment.
  • Stamina to remain standing and/or walk for extended periods of time.
  • Vision to read printed materials and a computer screen.
  • Hearing and speech to communicate effectively in-person and over the telephone.
  • Strength and agility to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced Specialty Certification in Vascular Sonography.
  • Graduate from an ARDMS accredited ultrasound program.
  • Certified with ARDMS in either AB, OB or VT.
  • Experience in a high volume acute care hospital.
  • Experience in a high volume ultrasound department.
  • Experience with OB, General, and Vascular Ultrasound.

Responsibilities

  • Performs a variety of ultrasound examinations to help diagnose patient's condition.
  • Performs a variety of ultrasound scans such as neonatal, pelvic, abdominal, arterial/venous, carotids, etc.
  • Assesses patient tolerance.
  • Assesses pathology.
  • Uses equipment associated with performing ultrasound scans.
  • Communicates effectively with a wide variety of people from diverse socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with all personnel contacted in the course of duties.
  • Efficiently, effectively and safely uses equipment.
