About The Position

Performs a variety of technical procedures that require independent judgment in the application of non-ionizing, high frequency ultrasonic waves for diagnosis of disease.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, required.
  • Graduate of an approved program in Echocardiography/Ultrasound, required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of anatomy, physiology, physics of diagnostic ultrasound, required.
  • Familiarity with pertinent medical/surgical disease, required.
  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer certification, required.
  • Equivalent work experience documented by institutional referral with a minimum of 200 cases in echocardiography and other modalities.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares patient for examination, including positioning and explaining procedures to relieve anxiety.
  • Sets up equipment for procedures in a timely fashion.
  • Performs ultrasound procedures, recognizing significant structures, differentiating artifacts, and ensuring all necessary views are obtained.
  • Determines the need for more extensive evaluations beyond preliminary instructions.
  • Obtains pertinent radiological and diagnostic exam reports for physician correlation.
  • Consults with referring radiologist regarding patient history and appropriate procedures.
  • Correlates clinical history to ascertain that the appropriate procedure is performed.
  • Monitors patient condition during the entire examination, observing for changes and reporting any abnormalities.
  • Maintains records and logs exams performed, including accurate documentation and labeling of studies.
  • Performs minor repairs and frequent calibration checks on ultrasound equipment.
  • Troubleshoots mechanical problems and reports major issues to appropriate personnel.
  • Maintains control of inventory and purchases of supplies for the assigned area.
  • Checks purchase order requisitions and reviews stock levels and utilization of inventories and supplies.
  • Performs related duties as required.
