About The Position

Performs highly skilled technical work in diagnostic ultrasound using complex equipment for specialized and/or technically difficult examinations.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited program in Ultrasound Technology is required.
  • ARDMS registered. Employees hired BEFORE 2/1/2017 must obtain the required ARDMS certification by 12/31/2017. Employees hired AFTER 2/1/2017 who have completed training must obtain their required certification within six months of hire.
  • American Heart Association and any additional applicable life support certification for Healthcare Providers may be required at the unit level upon hire with at least 6 months validity and maintenance at JHS for the duration of employment.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Unit Specific Credential

Nice To Haves

  • At least two to three years' experience in general, vascular, ob/gyn ultrasound.

Responsibilities

  • Scans patients and maintains all safety precautions while administering treatments appropriate to the patient's age-specific needs.
  • Acquires pertinent clinical information from the patient's chart and/or computer and upholds age-specific safety standards.
  • Develops films when a Medical Surgical Technologist is not available.
  • Records complete procedures in the HIS system and documents them in the daily log with technician initials.
  • Escorts patients into and out of the examination room.
  • Transports patients to various areas of the X-ray department as needed.
  • Performs portable examinations.
  • Performs or assists the radiologist during O.R. cases.
  • Provides preliminary impressions to physicians when a report is not yet available in the system.
  • Explains proper exam preparation to patients and/or nurses (e.g., NPO, hydration for pelvic exams) in alignment with patient life cycle and safety requirements.
  • Assists radiologists with special procedures.
  • Prepares necessary equipment and supplies for special procedures.
  • Reports equipment malfunctions to the supervisor.
  • Cleans examination rooms after each patient and adheres to Infection Control Policies, including Universal Precautions.
  • Assists in training ultrasound students, residents, and fellows.
  • Reviews the CQI Quarterly Report during section meetings and contributes ideas for continuous quality improvement.
  • Maintains understanding of growth and development principles for patients across all age groups.
  • Assesses patient status data and interprets information needed to identify patient requirements.
  • Maintains current CPR certification.
  • Follows and performs all unit-specific policies and procedures as outlined in the competency checklist.
  • Utilizes job- and unit-specific equipment as required.
  • Demonstrates service excellence and CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect, Expertise).
  • Performs all other related job duties as assigned.
