About The Position

The Ultrasound Technologist Supervisor position involves professional technical supervisory work in Ultrasound Technology, focusing on supervising Ultrasound Technologists I and managing the Ultrasound Department. This role includes teaching Ultrasound Technology to medical students, physicians, and technologists from other radiology areas. Incumbents must demonstrate extensive knowledge and experience for judgment values and instant decision-making. Work adheres to supervisory management practices, professional theory, principles, and techniques. Supervision is received from a medical superior who reviews test results for professional quality. This position also plays a significant role in the administration or preparation of departmental or organizational budgets.

Requirements

  • Generally requires 5 to 7 years of related experience.
  • Management experience is required.
  • Graduation from an accredited program in Ultrasound Technology is required.
  • Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work accurately while meeting multiple deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
  • Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with critical thinking and professional composure.
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions.
  • Ability to exercise sound and independent judgment.
  • Knowledge and skill in use of job appropriate technology and software applications.
  • ARDMS certification is required.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) and any additional applicable life support certification for Healthcare Providers is required upon hire with at least 6 months validity and maintenance at JHS for the duration of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises the efficiency and completion of various diagnostic ultrasound studies and evaluates the Quality Control.
  • Exercises considerable technical knowledge and skill in coordinating daily assignments with medical staff.
  • Meets with Administration regarding budget, equipment purchase, department planning policies and procedures.
  • Maintains records and documentation of personnel files, equipment repairs, quality assurance testing, patients statistics, monthly statistical reports, daily report forms, overtime requests, staff meeting, chart audits and weekly schedule of inpatients and outpatient.
  • Performs high quality sonographic procedures.
  • Orders supplies and equipment repairs in a cost effective manner.
  • Establishes and implements new policies and procedures for the department.
  • Checks equipment to ensure proper functioning.
  • Assists sonographers with more difficult procedures or patients with special needs, such as issues related to disease processes of age.
  • Holds regular monthly meetings to discuss departmental problems, informs staff of new policies and utilizes ideas of all personnel in establishing a smooth, efficient and organizes department.
  • Schedules patients and ensures that area is prepared, when needed.
  • Displays extensive and thorough knowledge of all types of highly technical ultrasound equipment, disease processes, etiology and diagnosis.
  • Assists new sonographers and physicians in performing ultrasound procedures.
  • Interview all prospective personnel, such as secretaries and sonographers.
  • Approves staff leave requests and co-signs with director of the School Diagnostic Medical Sonography leave requests for Ultrasound students during their rotation.
  • Responsible for training and instruction of students by other sonographers on staff, to ensure uniform explanations and understanding of departmental policies and procedures and routine operation.
  • Performs more difficult or emergency exams as necessary.
  • Deals with patients sympathetically and tactfully, and in a manner appropriate to the patients age and specific needs.
  • Provides a preliminary interpretation of exams to Attending Physicians and fellows.
  • Lectures to students, residents and fellows, when requested.
  • Performs all other related job duties as assigned.
