Requirements

Must be RDMS (Registered Diagnostic Sonographer) registered in one or more sub-specialties (OB/GYN and/or abdominal).
Must be a graduate of a radiologic or ultrasonography program.
Must be certified in CPR.
Uses proper body mechanics.
Ability to push, pull, and/or assist in moving patients from carts, wheelchairs, or other transport devices onto imaging table/couch.
Ability to physically position patients for image acquisition or interventional/therapeutic procedures.
Ability to maintain neat and orderly files and records.
Ability to communicate and understand oral and written communication.
Ability to communicate effectively with management, physicians, co-workers, and patients.

Responsibilities

Greets patients, confirms identification, and explains procedures.
Prepares necessary supplies, trays, and equipment for exams.
Performs various ultrasound techniques and examinations including vascular, abdominal, breast, retroperitoneal, obstetric, and gynecological imaging.
Prepares the room, equipment, and supplies for patients; explains procedures, transfers, positions, and assists patients.
Lifts, moves, and transports patients using wheelchairs or carts, and positions patients for exams.
Selects appropriate technical factors and operates equipment as directed.
Observes patients and machines during procedures, reporting any unusual occurrences or patient condition changes.
Utilizes hospital computer systems (HIS/RIS/PACS) for information retrieval, image review, data verification, and order entry.
Maintains records of examination data and other pertinent patient information.
Stocks the ultrasound department with supplies and reports equipment malfunctions.
Consults with others to obtain complete clinical histories and gathers pertinent clinical data.
Identifies problems and communicates them to the Lead Ultrasonographer.
Schedules cases to coordinate with other patient examinations.
Participates in community outreach screenings.
Performs mobile vascular studies as needed and is available for emergency call on a rotational basis.
Assists the Director and Lead Ultrasonographer in maintaining imaging protocols according to ACR, ICAVL, and AIUM standards.
Demonstrates knowledge of age-specific patient needs and modifies care accordingly, primarily for adults and geriatrics, but also for adolescents, children, infants, and neonates.
Works in the front office/file room as needed.
