About The Position

Under the direction of the Imaging Services Director performs diagnostic and therapeutic ultrasound/OBGYN procedures including but to not limited to obstetrical, abdominal and pelvic. Evaluates sonographic characteristics of anatomy and pathology. Performs drainage, aspiration and biopsy procedures to the specifications and standards established by the department’s Medical Director. Rotates shifts as assigned. Applies good interpersonal and communication processes utilizing verbal and non-verbal skills. USC is an equal opportunity employer. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Graduate from an approved and accredit ultrasound program.
  • Current RDMS required. RDMS required within 90 days for Methodist Hospital Interns.
  • Must successfully complete and maintain BLS certification.
  • Minimum one year of acute hospital experience preferred
  • No prior experience required for all students/interns trained by Methodist Hospital.

Responsibilities

  • Accurately bills patient procedures, documents unusual conditions and/or limitations, records time examination completed, and technologist identification.
  • Attends continuing education as required by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers.
  • Attends in-service classes as assigned.
  • Complies with all departmental and hospital policies and procedures.
  • Documents unusual situations.
  • Demonstrates competence in general, abdominal and OB sonographic imaging, including proper positioning and scanning techniques.
  • Effectively uses PSS, Order Control, and DMM Information Systems and PACS programs.
  • Lifts and transfers patients.
  • Maintains confidentiality of patient care and medical record information.
  • Monitors supply usage, orders replacements as needed.
  • Performs other tasks as assigned.
  • Performs safety inspection of equipment prior to initial use.
  • Reports unsafe acts or conditions to department management.
  • Complies with all safety and infection control policies.
  • Possess the skills and knowledge needed to access the condition of the pediatric, adolescent, and geriatric patient(s).
  • Provides educational information to family members as required.
  • Responsible for understanding and participating in the organization-wide Quality Improvement Program through orientation, education, departmental and interdepartmental quality control, quality improvement, and quality planning activities.
  • Reviews Ultrasound requisition, verifies examination, obtains patient treatment history and checks for special instructions.
  • Greets patients, verifies their identity, and explains procedure utilizing Aidet for Patient Satisfaction.
  • Rotates to different shifts and work areas as assigned.
  • Works overtime as directed.
  • Availability for “call shifts” is mandatory. A maximum 45-minute response is required.
