About The Position

The Ultrasound Tech works in the Perinatology unit at St. Mary Medical Center, operating ultrasound equipment and a film processor to produce diagnostic images for presentation to the Perinatologist. The role also assists the Perinatologist with genetic procedures. The position is part-time on the day shift, scheduled 7:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m.

The technologist explains procedures to patients and adjusts their approach according to each patient’s age, developmental level, and needs. They follow Center protocols unless the Perinatologist specifies otherwise, select and prepare appropriate equipment and supplies, operate imaging equipment safely, and prepare patients with instructions to support desired results, cooperation, and reduced anxiety.

Requirements

• Technical school education or an associate's degree.
• 2–4 years of experience.
• RDMS certification.
• Obstetrical (NTQR) certification.
• BLS certification.

Responsibilities

• Explain procedures to patients, adapting the approach to their age, developmental level, and needs.
• Follow Center protocols for procedures unless the Perinatologist specifies otherwise.
• Produce quality diagnostic images for interpretation.
• Select and prepare appropriate equipment and supplies.
• Operate medical imaging equipment properly and safely.
• Prepare patients for procedures and provide instructions to obtain desired results, gain cooperation, and minimize anxiety.
• Assist the Perinatologist with genetic procedures.
