About The Position

At NorthBay Health, the UltraSonographer II works under the supervision of the Ultrasound Lead. This role coordinates the daily patient schedule for Ultrasound, performs U/S studies, and ensures correct processing and handling. The position also involves assisting in other areas of radiology such as the front desk and reception, ensuring proper equipment maintenance and cleanliness, and assisting clerical staff. The Ultrasonographer II attends seminars and in-services, takes call and standby as needed, and promotes a cooperative and positive relationship with physicians and other hospital staff/departments.

Requirements

  • On the job training prior to year 2000 or a graduate from an approved ultrasound course.
  • The American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS), registered with at least one (1) specialty examination or ARRT Sonography (S).
  • AHA or equivalent BLS certification.
  • Minimum two years’ hospital experience.
  • Must demonstrate and maintain current knowledge and skill in providing appropriate care for patients in the following age groups: Geriatric, Adult, Young Adult, Pediatric and Neonatal.

Responsibilities

  • Performs ultrasound examinations in accordance with established protocols.
  • Assists and instructs patients prior to and during examinations.
  • Evaluates each study to ensure it meets required quality standards.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality, safety, and well-being during examinations.
  • Inspects and cleans equipment prior to use.
  • Reports all equipment failures and/or malfunctions to the ultrasound supervisor.
  • Reports all patient complaints, discrepancies, and drug reactions according to QA policies.
  • Processes images, organizes paperwork, and completes charge sheets.
  • Works in other areas of the department such as reception, assisting transfer, transport, etc.
  • Ensures organizational standards for Joint Commission, Patient Safety, and the Department of Health are met or exceeded.
  • Takes call and/or standby when required.
