About The Position

This role involves performing diagnostic medical ultrasound procedures with independent, professional, ethical judgment and critical thinking. A key aspect of the role is the safe application of the ALARA Principle, ensuring the lowest output power and shortest scan time while acquiring necessary diagnostic information. The sonographer will use proper patient positioning, tools, devices, equipment adjustment, and ergonomically correct scanning techniques to ensure patient comfort and prevent injury to themselves. The position requires proficiency in at least three (3) RDMS/ARRT(S) specialties and the ability to routinely perform any of the five (5) listed specialties: Abdomen (AB), Obstetrics and Gynecology (OBGYN), Pediatric Sonography (PS), Vascular Technology (VT), and Musculoskeletal (MSK).

Requirements

  • Certified through ARRT OR ARDMS.
  • High School or GED.
  • CPR certification within 3 months of employment.
  • Must have equivalent of 6 years (12,480 hours) continuous ultrasound experience (education program -does not count) with no more than 1 year break in experience within the last 7 years.
  • At least 3 years of experience in ALL 5 specialties.
  • Relevant specialties at Watson Clinic include Musculoskeletal, Abdominal, Vascular Sonography, Pediatric Sonography, and Obstetrics/Gynecology.
  • Basic knowledge of the principles, practices, and procedures involved with the operation of ultrasound equipment use.
  • Basic knowledge of human anatomy and proper positioning of patients to secure desired scans and images.
  • Basic knowledge of methods used in processing images.
  • Ability to administer first aid in emergency medical situations (CPR).
  • ARDMS registered.
  • Possess the ability to do duplex scanning.
  • One year of experience in ob, Gyn, or Abd.
  • Must possess RVT registry to perform Vascular exams.
  • No Correction Action Plans within a year.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains a thorough working knowledge of the operation of all equipment and current developments relating to ultrasound imaging.
  • Performs examinations according to policy and protocol.
  • Maintains proper quality control of ultrasound equipment.
  • Serves as a resource to the physician relating to ultrasound procedures.
  • Functions as a delegated agent of the physician and practices under the supervision of a licensed practitioner.
  • Uses independent, professional, ethical judgment, and critical thinking to safely perform diagnostic medical procedures.
  • Applies elements of the AS Low As Reasonably Achievable (“ALARA”) Principle including lowest output power and shortest scan time consistent with acquiring the required diagnostic information.
  • Uses proper patient positioning, tools, devices, equipment adjustment, and ergonomically correct scanning techniques to promote patient comfort and prevent compromised data acquisition or musculoskeletal injury to the diagnostic medical sonographer.
  • Must have applicable RDMS/ARRT(S) registry in three (3) or more specialties.
  • Must demonstrate competency and perform any of the five (5) specialty routinely.
  • Available to work at all locations.
  • Available to work ALL schedules.
  • Able to proctor other less experienced sonographers.
  • Able to work as an interim lead sonographer.
