UI/UX Designer, Lead
About The Position
BigBear.ai is seeking a talented UI/UX Designer to help shape intuitive, engaging digital experiences. The role combines human-computer interaction design, user research, design thinking, and front-end development using modern JavaScript frameworks. The designer will create user-centric solutions that support business goals while accounting for technical constraints and business realities. The position involves researching user behaviors and interaction patterns; developing UI and UX strategies; creating and maintaining interface design files, wireframes, digital assets, and interactive prototypes; and building reusable JavaScript, HTML, and CSS code. The designer will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure that proposed solutions are both creative and feasible. BigBear.ai provides AI-powered decision intelligence solutions for national security, supply chain management, and digital identity. Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree and 8 or more years of professional software development experience specializing in modern JavaScript frameworks.
- At least 7 years of hands-on experience developing dynamic applications with Vue, React, and Angular, supported by a strong portfolio or live code examples.
- Deep understanding of JavaScript tooling, including preprocessors and transpilers such as PUG, SCSS, and Babel.
- Experience with Node.js for backend and tooling purposes.
- Proficiency with Git and complex team version-control workflows, including branching strategies, pull requests, and code reviews.
- Visual design skills and experience with image-authoring tools such as Photoshop or Illustrator.
- Expertise with wireframing and UI/UX design tools such as MockPlus, Sketch, Figma, or Adobe XD.
- A portfolio demonstrating JavaScript proficiency and understanding of SOLID design principles through plugins, node packages, or reusable components.
- Expert-level CSS knowledge, including extension languages such as Less and Sass and related preprocessor tools.
- Mastery of HTML5 and best practices for building modern, accessible web interfaces.
- Experience designing interactive interfaces and building clickable prototypes with tools such as Sketch, InVision, or Axure.
- Proficiency using Git version control and the command line to streamline development workflows.
Nice To Haves
- Familiarity with C#/.NET technologies; this is a plus but is not required.
- At least 7 years of experience as a front-end developer delivering polished, high-performance user interfaces.
- At least 7 years of experience as a UI/UX designer creating intuitive and engaging digital experiences.
- Mastery of semantic, accessible HTML and CSS, including Flexbox, Grid, CSS Custom Properties, CSS Functions, and Scalable CSS, structured using BEM naming methodology.
- Extensive experience with modern JavaScript (ESNext), including Module Syntax and native Web Components for modular, maintainable codebases.
