About The Position

The Maryland Department of Labor (MD Labor), Division of Unemployment Insurance is accepting applications for the position of UI Professional II. This recruitment will be used to fill current and future vacancies, and the resulting eligible list will be maintained for one year after the closing date. The position is located at 100 S. Charles St. Baltimore, Maryland 21201. The main purpose of this job is to provide high-quality customer service by explaining and interpreting the rules and regulations of the Unemployment Insurance Program to external customers. This role also involves providing accurate information to assist employers with their filing obligations and contacting employers via phone and written communication to collect outstanding UI debt. This position does not supervise or lead other positions.

Requirements

  • Four years and six months to five years of experience in a public/or private agency rendering and/or determining eligibility for a Human Service Program or other programs.
  • Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and six months to one year of experience in a public/or private agency rendering and/or determining eligibility for a Human Service Program or other programs for the required experience.
  • Candidates may substitute additional graduate level education at an accredited college or university at the rate of 30 credit hours on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.
  • Must undergo a state and FBI criminal background check as a condition of employment.
  • All candidates are subject to a background check against files maintained by the Division of Unemployment Insurance (MD Labor/DUI) to determine whether any monies are owed to MD Labor/DUI as a result of unemployment insurance overpayment/fraud.

Responsibilities

  • Make outbound calls to employers to collect UI debt.
  • Negotiate payment arrangements to collect UI debt.
  • Gather tax and wage information from employers to establish liability under Maryland Unemployment Insurance Law.
  • Assist with reviewing and processing correspondence from the USPS.
  • Explain State Unemployment Insurance laws, rules, and regulations to employers and their representatives.
  • Assist with incoming telephone calls and provide accurate information to employers.
