About The Position

Northern Star Resources Limited is seeking a Light Vehicle Mechanic to maintain underground and surface light vehicles and associated ancillary equipment. The role involves performing diagnostic, breakdown, follow-up, and preventative maintenance tasks in a timely and cost-effective manner, adhering to company standards and policies. The primary goal is to minimize downtime and ensure targeted machine reliability. This position is based at a remote campsite with a 28-day on, 14-day off rotating schedule, working up to 12 hours a day or more in extreme conditions.

Requirements

  • Current Driver’s License.
  • Excellent fault-finding skill and ability to carry out preventative and breakdown maintenance.
  • 2-5 years mechanical experience in heavy mining application.
  • Basic literacy, must be able to read and write English.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Be able to pass a background check and post-offer physical.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and specifications.
  • Proficient in prioritising work.
  • Ability to problem-solve and manage conflicting priorities.
  • Flexibility to adapt to improved procedures and practices.
  • Awareness of the Mine Safety and Health Act & Regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Undertake diagnostic, breakdowns, follow-up work and PMs to a high standard of execution, all work completed in a safe and timely manner.
  • Provide technical advice and support to fellow Maintenance Team members.
  • Ensure workmanship through meeting standards and tolerances and testing of equipment prior to handover.
  • Identify correct parts and equipment for all planned and unplanned jobs as necessary.
  • Attend daily pre-start meetings to ensure effective communication.
  • Provide written and verbal handover for incoming crews regarding maintenance plans and issues.
  • Liaise closely with and maintain effective communication with Leading Hand, Underground Supervisors and other key Stakeholders to organise priority breakdowns.
  • Ensure correct history is collated and effectively recorded.
  • Carry out, provide input to the development of, and comply with SWPs and JHAs, ensuring risks are identified and mitigated, and safety standards are met.
  • Organise all permits as required (e.g. isolations, confined space and hot work permits).
  • Continuously review scheduled jobs to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Highlight equipment defects and issues effectively.
  • Rigorous cost management. Avoid rework and the unnecessary use of parts/services.
  • Ensure all required documentation is completed correctly and submitted prior to the end of shift.
  • Ensure all safety related activities are undertaken in accordance with Company policy and MSHA requirements including Hazard IDs, pre-start checks, pre-start meetings, and incident reporting.
  • Maintain a high standard of housekeeping in all work areas.
  • Other duties as required.
