About The Position

Under directive supervision, the U.C.&M. Apprentice performs less complicated construction and maintenance work on dead conductors, structures, and equipment. They will assist 1st Class and 2nd Class U.C.&M Men in more involved tasks and are expected to acquire pole climbing skills. Under close supervision, they may work on energized conductors, structures, and equipment not exceeding 600 volts. Responsibilities may include driving trucks, operating winches, cleaning parts, oiling, taping, soldering, minor servicing of electrical equipment, installing simple power and lighting circuits, and installing, removing, connecting, or disconnecting electric meters and services. The role requires acquiring the knowledge and skills necessary for advancement to U.C.&M. Man 2nd Class, determined by an appropriate test.

Requirements

At least one year's experience as Laborer 1/c in the Maintenance Department, or its equivalent.
Ability to learn the work of the Maintenance Department as indicated by an appropriate test.
Ability to perform semi-routine operations of moderate complexity and variety where standard methods of procedure are available.
Equivalent to four years of high school; or two years of high school plus two years' apprenticeship or trade school training.
Must be able to qualify for an automobile operator's license.
Normal health, physique, and use of senses as indicated by passing the required physical examination given by a Company physician, including color perception.
Strength and endurance adequate for arduous labor in all kinds of outdoor weather conditions.
Possess temperament suited to jobs where manual dexterity, precision, and patience are particularly essential.
Willingness to work extra and/or irregular hours and under unusual or special working conditions as required.
