About The Position

This position involves performing less complicated construction and maintenance work on dead conductors, structures, and equipment under directive supervision. The apprentice will assist 1st and 2nd Class U.C.&M. Men with more involved tasks and is expected to acquire pole climbing skills. Under close supervision, the role includes working on energized conductors, structures, and equipment not exceeding 600 volts. Duties may also involve driving trucks, operating winches, cleaning parts, oiling, taping, soldering, minor servicing of electrical equipment, installing simple power and lighting circuits, and installing, removing, connecting, or disconnecting electric meters and services. The apprentice must acquire the knowledge and skills necessary for advancement to U.C.&M. Man 2nd Class, as determined by an appropriate test.

Requirements

At least one year's experience as Laborer 1/c in the Maintenance Department, or its equivalent.
Ability to learn the work of the Maintenance Department as indicated by an appropriate test.
Ability to perform semi-routine operations of moderate complexity and variety where standard methods of procedure are available.
Equivalent to four years of high school; or two years of high school plus two years' apprenticeship or trade school training.
Ability to qualify for an automobile operator's license.
Normal health, physique, and use of senses as indicated by passing the required physical examination given by a Company physician, including color perception.
Strength and endurance adequate for arduous labor in all kinds of outdoor weather conditions.
Possess temperament suited to jobs where manual dexterity, precision, and patience are particularly essential.
Willingness to work extra and/or irregular hours and under unusual or special working conditions as required.

Responsibilities

Work on energized conductors, structures, and equipment not exceeding 600 volts under close supervision.
Perform tasks such as driving a truck and operating a winch.
Perform cleaning of parts, oiling, taping, and soldering.
Perform minor servicing of electrical equipment.
Install simple power and lighting circuits.
Install, remove, connect, or disconnect electric meters and services.
Perform other related or less skilled work as directed.
Acquire knowledge and skills necessary for advancement to U.C.&M. Man 2nd Class.
