About The Position

Perform manual work of a skilled nature under direct supervision of a foreman in the construction, operation and maintenance of the waterworks and sanitary sewer utilities installations.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or Acceptable Equivalent (i.e. GED).
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions and to communicate (verbally) in a clear and concise manner with work associates and the general public.
• Accuracy in basic mathematical calculations (i.e. addition, subtraction, multiplication and division) and knowledge and application of units of measure.
• Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking in routine and non-routine functions of operation, maintenance and construction of overhead and underground electric utility installations.
• Valid driver's license from the State of Mississippi.
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear.
• The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls.
• The employee is routinely required to stand; walk; sit; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
• The employee must routinely lift and/or move fifty (50) or more pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
• Required to be vaccinated for Hepatitis B.

Responsibilities

• Lay bricks and finished concrete in the construction or repair of manholes, where a moderately high degree of finished work is required.
• Lay water pipe, prepare the proper hole for bell joints, fit sleeves, cut and thread pipe for connection.
• Shore and brace trenches in sewer construction, lay and make joints in sewer pipes.
• Operate backhoe, sewer rodders, air compressor, jackhammer and other related equipment under supervision of foreman.
• Perform preventative maintenance on the equipment used in everyday work.
• Operate, maintain and install water and sewer taps and connections.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
