About The Position

The TV Media teacher provides project-based learning experiences to high school students. Participants develop creative, technical, and communication skills as they produce documentary and dramatic videos, public service announcements, sports telecasts, and other media projects. The educator develops and implements media production programming, beginner level to advanced level, including writing curriculum, as well as teaching and instructing students on media production.

Requirements

  • Valid license from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education in Visual Arts or Theater 5-12
  • SEI Endorsement
  • An understanding of the concepts of institutional and structural racism, and bias, and their impact on underserved and underrepresented communities
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing, to children and adults
  • Commitment to remain current in content knowledge and teaching strategies

Responsibilities

  • Provides learning experiences in Video/TV/Film, guided by the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and district standards and requirements, while creating an environment that is conducive to student learning and involvement.
  • Monitors students' understanding of the curriculum effectively and adjusts instruction, materials, or assessments when appropriate
  • Teaches the skills, knowledge, and techniques needed to produce documentary and dramatic videos, public service announcements, sports telecasts, and other media projects
  • Promotes varied instructional strategies, including the effective use of technologies available to teachers, to increase student learning, involvement, and confidence to learn.
  • Demonstrates appreciation for and sensitivity to, the diversity among individuals and strives to ensure equitable opportunities for student learning
  • Maintains and improves professional competence through attendance at professional development events, and by self-generated activities that meet district expectations and the requirements for re-certification
  • Shares responsibility for accomplishing the goals and priorities of his/her grade/team/department, building, and school district, attending all faculty and committee meetings as required, and district-wide committees as needed
  • Other duties, as assigned.
