About The Position

A Tutor possesses special skills or training in a specific subject area or field, who is employed to provide individual or small group instructional reinforcement. A tutor may be a currently enrolled Polk State student or a person with an Associate in Arts or Associate in Science degree, or an equivalent number of credit hours from a regionally accredited college or university. Tutors must demonstrate proficiency in the subjects in which they tutor and have taken and passed with a grade of "B" or better in the course(s) in which they will tutor. The TLCC (Winter Haven) is looking for tutors for the Fall Semester in the following areas: Writing Math Science (Biology, Chemistry, Anatomy & Physiology)

Requirements

  • Good reading and writing skills
  • Ability to write legibly
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks with patience
  • Ability to work well with a diverse student population
  • Ability to work independently as well as with others and be self-motivated
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills
  • Good judgment
  • Graduation from a standard high school (or equivalent).
  • Demonstrate proficiency in the subjects in which they tutor and have taken and passed with a grade of "B" or better in the course(s) in which they will tutor.

Nice To Haves

  • A.S. degree from a regionally accredited college or university.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individual or small group instructional reinforcement for disabled students.
  • Maintains confidentiality at all times regarding student, office records, and information.
  • Performs all tasks with a friendly, professional work attitude at all times.

Benefits

  • Tutors are allowed to work a maximum of 25 hours per week.
