About The Position
The Dr. Julia N. Visor Academic Center, a division of University College, aims to assist students in successfully transitioning to Illinois State University, achieving their educational goals, and realizing their academic potential throughout their academic journey. The Visor Center provides specialized communities, programs, and services, including facilitated study groups, writing assistance, learning workshops, and developmental and transitional courses. Content tutors are responsible for providing small-group tutoring on a weekly basis for lower-level courses at Illinois State University. This application is for an applicant pool, and applications will be reviewed mid-semester as demand for subjects increases or staffing changes occur.
Requirements
- Overall GPA of at least 2.80
- A grade of A or high B is usually required in the course(s) in which the candidate is applying to tutor
- Friendly disposition
- Desire to be helpful
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Ability to effectively communicate on a daily basis
Nice To Haves
- Proficient in the area in which they desire to tutor
- Able to convey knowledge clearly via the spoken and written word
- 3.00 GPA (for priority consideration)
- Additional courses in the subject area applied for
Responsibilities
- Provide small-group tutoring on a weekly basis for lower level courses at Illinois State University
- Provide help tailored to each student's needs
- Communicate effectively
- Perform other tasks as assigned by graduate assistant supervisors and the Coordinator of Academic Support Services
